Assistant Athletic Coach

 

Job Summary:

The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in the responsibility for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. 

 

Qualifications:

ISBE teaching certificate or ASEP certification 

IHSA concussion and PED test completed

CPR/AED Certified

Valid Driver’s License 

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation.

Head Coach and Athletic Director

 

Terms of Employment:

This is a yearly stipend position at Code 5. The term may be extended annually pending the review of school needs and the evaluation process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. 
  2. Assists in organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  3. Assesses the players’ strengths and weaknesses. 
  4. Assists in the development of an efficient practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  5. Assists in coaching and instructing players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  6. Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Creates a plan to improve weaknesses. 
  7. Assists in determining the game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  8. Establishes and maintains standards of behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.  
  9. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  10. Encourages student-athletes to maintain high academic standing.
  11. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  12. Assists in communications with parents/guardians.
  13. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  14. Models good sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  15. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  16. Sanitizes and cleans equipment.
  17. Participates in special activities to include parent nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.  
  18. Assists in maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  19. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  20. Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  21. Assists in the inspection of facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns. 
  22. Chaperones/supervises athletic events, as needed.
  23. Assumes the duties of the Head Coach if required to do so. 
  24. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Head Coach or another appropriate administrator.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes or ladders. Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.
