IT Specialist 

 

Job Summary:

The IT Specialist supports the district’s technology operations by providing technical assistance, maintaining systems, and assisting with infrastructure tasks. Working under the guidance of the Technology Specialist and Director of Technology, this role is designed for professionals seeking to grow their expertise and potentially advance into the Technology Specialist position with additional experience and certifications.

 

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent with technology-related experience, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, system maintenance, or basic networking.

 

Evaluation:

This job's performance will be evaluated per provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Staff.

 

Reports to:

Technology Specialist and Director of Technology 

 

Terms of Employment:

This is a 12-month, non-union IMRF salaried position with a salary range of $50,000 - $55,000, as established by the Board of Education. As an exempt employee, there may be requirements to work beyond regular hours, including evenings and overtime, to meet the needs of the department. Flexibility is essential to ensure the efficient operation of the department.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation package for non-union positions includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, a $50,000 term life insurance policy, accrued vacation days, 15 sick days, 2 personal leave days annually, and holidays per district policy. Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Technical Support:
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex technical issues, providing advanced troubleshooting and solutions for district staff and students.
  • Lead efforts to ensure timely and efficient resolution of hardware, software, and network-related issues, maintaining high customer service standards.
  1. System Maintenance and Optimization:
  • Oversee the maintenance and performance of district technology systems, including computers, printers, and basic network components.
  • Coordinate and execute system updates, patches, and preventive maintenance schedules to ensure optimal functionality and security.
  1. Infrastructure Support:
  • Assist in planning and implementing upgrades to the district’s technology infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Specialist to identify and address system vulnerabilities and opportunities for enhancement.
  1. Leadership and Team Coordination:
  • Act as the lead for the technician team, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring efficient operations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians, fostering skill development and team collaboration.
  • Serve as a liaison between technicians and the Technology Specialist to ensure alignment with district goals.
  1. Training and Documentation:
  • Develop and deliver training for staff on advanced technology tools, systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for processes, system configurations, and troubleshooting protocols.
  1. Project Coordination and Development:
  • Assist in planning and executing district-wide technology projects, ensuring timelines and objectives are met.
  • Support developing and deploying new technologies and systems to enhance district operations.
  1. Growth and Development:
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Pursue certifications and skills necessary for career advancement, including potential promotion to Technology Specialist.

Growth Potential:

This role is designed to prepare the IT Specialist for progression to the Technology Specialist position. Additional training, certifications, and hands-on experience will be supported and encouraged.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Basic understanding of hardware, software, networking, and troubleshooting principles.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems.
  • Familiarity with managing devices in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of tools like PowerSchool, Google Workspace, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with basic network setups or system administration.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students are also required.  Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
