Job Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is a key leadership role within Harvard Community

Unit School District 50 is responsible for developing and implementing human resource

strategies that support the district’s mission and goals. This position oversees all HR

Functions, including recruitment, staffing, employee relations, compensation, benefits,

Performance management and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The

The Director of Human Resources works collaboratively with district leadership, school

administrators, and staff to create a positive work environment that fosters professional

growth and high levels of employee engagement.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, or a related field is required. 

 

Master’s degree in Human Resources, Educational Leadership, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

 

Experience:

At least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a public school district or educational setting. Experience in a PreK-12 school district environment, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the education sector.

 

Reports to:

Assistant Superintendent 

 

Supervises: 

Human Resource Department Team members

 

Terms of Employment:

This is a 12-month position with a starting salary range of $80,000 - $120,000, as established by the board of education. 

 

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation package for the Director of Human Resources includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance and a $300,000 term life insurance policy. The position offers paid vacation, sick, and personal leave days annually, and tuition reimbursement. The Board provides a monthly allowance for cellular phone and travel expenses, a yearly wellness allowance, and membership dues for up to two professional organizations. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Strategy
  • Develop and execute HR strategies that align with the district’s strategic plan and educational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent to align HR initiatives with the district’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in developing and implementing district-wide HR policies and practices.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and performance evaluation for Human Resources Department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational strategic goals and fostering a collaborative, results-driven team environment.
  • Serve as a district leadership team member, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  1. Recruitment & Staffing
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent to develop and manage the District Staffing calendar and associated timelines, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and priorities.
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process for all district positions, ensuring the hiring of highly qualified staff.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract a diverse pool of candidates.
  • Manage the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition for new employees.
  1. Employee Relations
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations issues, providing guidance and resolving conflicts and concerns.
  • Ensure effective communication between HR and employees, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Develop and implement a performance evaluation system for all staff, ensuring consistent and fair evaluations.
  1. Compensation & Benefits
  • Oversee the development and administration of the district’s compensation and benefits programs.
  • Collaborate with the Business Office to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Ensure competitive and equitable salary structures for all employee groups.
  • Manage the district’s health insurance, retirement, and other benefit programs, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  1. Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, EEO, and FLSA.
  • Develop and implement district policies and procedures related to HR functions.
  • Manage employee records and ensure confidentiality and accuracy.
  1. Data Management & Reporting
  • Oversee the management of HR data, including employee records, payroll information, and other personnel-related data.
  • Prepare and present reports on HR metrics, including staffing, turnover, and employee satisfaction.
  • Utilize data to make informed decisions and recommendations to district leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and other HR-related technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands of this position include frequent standing or walking for extended periods. The employee may occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist are also required. Employees may reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
