Job Summary:
The District Accountant's function is to support department activities with specific responsibility for ensuring that overall fiscal policies, practices, and regulations meet compliance requirements. The position performs a variety of accounting and finance clerical tasks involving the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Associate’s degree with five years of related experience
Certified Public Accountant, preferred but not required.
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.

Terms of Employment:
This is a 12-month non-union IMRF position with a salary range of $55,000 - $60,000, as established by the Board of Education.
Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation package for non-union positions includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance and a $50,000 term life insurance policy. Employees are eligible for paid vacation days based on their length of employment, and holidays are provided per district policy. Full-time employees receive two paid personal leave days per year. Tuition reimbursement is available after the successful completion of the first year.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reconciles all bank statements and general ledger balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Create and maintain a chart of accounts, ensuring proper account coding for all transactions.
- Maintain and monitor district revenue accounts, reconciling state, federal, and local receipts.
- Assist with the notification and collection of student fees, maintaining the student fee collection platform.
- Create month-end Board, Business Office, and Department reports as needed.
- Support departments throughout the district by providing monthly budget reports and consultation on account numbers.
- Acts as the backup to the Accounts Payable position.
- Maintain all financial records and documentation for any audits and reviews performed.
- Oversee the HEF Grant, Activity Fund, Imprest, and Petty Cash Program.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the District accountability requirements, and other applicable state and federal regulations.
- Prepare transactions to post data to various ledgers, registers, journals, and logs following established accounting techniques and procedures.
- Oversee and maintain the District's accounting software. This includes training staff, managing staff access to the program, and completing month—and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare grant expenditure reports and grant account reconciliation for State and Local Grants.
- Monitoring grant expenditures to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, conditions, goals, and objectives of grant programs. Ensure grant accounts are accurate.
- Prepare monthly WINS reports for food service reimbursements.
- Assist with the preparation of Medicaid Reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of State and Federal Financial reports.
- Assume any other duties as the supervisor may delegate from time to time. The supervisor may adjust the scope of responsibilities outlined above, which will be in the District’s interest.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Employees may lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds occasionally. Repetitive bending at the waist and kneeling, stooping, crouching, and may reach overhead and above the shoulders and horizontally.
